MA Fine Arts Brighton university

Lucy Dalano

Go to visit the MA Fine Arts at the Brighton faculty of arts before it’s gone!

Here are some of my favourites artists that, I think, deserve some attention.

Lucy Delano: Great emergent woman artist, impeccable work, simple, concise, clean and … My favourite) perfect in many ways! I love it!

Susan Fynes, amazing detailed paintings. Abstract geometric patterns in massive scale. Inspiring!

The sound of JD Douglas is something of another dimension and I found that it can help your concentration! ( and imagination!)

Green Hands Coachwerks project

I recently moved to a new district and tucked away from the busy Brighton & hove city center life, discovered a very active local eco art community group. It has been open for 9 years and it is a non-profit association run by various micro cooperatives and it is run by local people who volunteer to make the project happen.

I went there first to buy my daily shopping, there is a great eco shop, and then I was interested in getting some help with growing my own vegetable garden. There was a leaflet there just about this so I went to met the founder of the workshop, Matt.

“The project “Green hands” offer free help and advice to anyone wanting to grow more food in their homes….”

I had actually an issue myself with raising beds and the leaflet continue reading:

“…Whether it’s a raised- bed in your back garden (!) or just a few herbs on the windowsill, get in touch and we’ll do what we can to get you growing…”

so here, perfect. I rang Matt and went to meet him for some great advice. the workshop is open

WEDS & THURS 10.00-5PM

It’s a drop-in but ring Matt first on:

COACHWERKS, 1 HOLLINGDEAN TERRACE BRIGHTON, BRIGHTON

It was really nice meeting Matt and I did resolve my architecture issue with my raised bed! I also learn about the art community center and what people do there. Amongst making beer, having a local shop and great artists exhibition, there is a new cafe opening, talks, evening events and information points for the local community life in Brighton.

The art center needs you and so do visit them as often as you can to support their great project.

Documentary: Nostalgia for the Light by Patrizio Guzman

This is a great documentary that will make you aware of the reality of today’s Chilean people. What the massacre that has happened under the general Pinochet’s dictatorship, killing more than 30000 people, hiding bodies in the desert ground or in the sea and left families to despair finding any clues of the remain of their loved one.

The documentary speaks of truth and depict facts. The discourse of “Nostalgia from the light” of  Patrizio Guzman parallele thoughts of genocide social repercussions with astronomic research with the universe and question what are our bodies are made of and where we might be coming from. A wonderful philosophical depiction of the nature of our existence and our right of freedom.

The documentary open with a detailed depiction of the astronomy center of the desert Atacama where the massacre took place. Narrated and filmed with stunning photography, it is a beautiful poetic imagery in hommage to the Chilean people.

Patrizio Guzman’s new documentary “The Pearl Button” is out now in cinema, more magical frames on the way, not to be missed.
